About the Savoy Theatre
London’s Savoy Theatre is a historic venue located in London's West End. Built in 1881, the Savoy Theatre holds the distinction of being the first public building entirely lit by electricity. It was originally constructed to showcase the popular comic operas of Gilbert and Sullivan and became synonymous with these works, known as the Savoy operas. Over the years, London’s Savoy Theatre has remained a prominent playhouse, hosting premieres of Oscar Wilde's Salome and Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit, making it a truly remarkable institution for all.
Remarkably, the theatre suffered a fire in 1990 but was meticulously restored to its former glory, featuring a classic 1929 design with modern amenities. Today, the Savoy Theatre remains in its incredible glory and stages major productions and musicals, continuing its legacy as a cornerstone of London's theatrical scene.
